Sam's Club Increases Rewards for

According to a Wednesday release, Sam's Club is now giving its top-tier members an additional 2 percent back in rewards on club purchases when they use the Sam's Club Mastercard. Starting on Wednesday, warehouse club members who pay for a "Plus" membership and have this card can earn up to 5% cash back on Sam's Club purchases (in stores or online), which is a 2% increase over what club members already earn with the card As part of the program change, the Mastercard previously offered 3 percent back on travel purchases was also removed.According to Sam's Club, the category was eliminated in order to better match the program with how its cardholders really use the MasterCard. Even before the epidemic ruined travel plans, travel wasn't a very popular spending category among Sam's Club cardholders. The current reward earning rates for the Sam's Club Mastercard from Synchrony Bank are as follows:

  • When you make an eligible purchase at Sam's Club, you'll receive 3 percent back in cash (up to 5 percent back for Plus members).
  • A 5% cashback is available on fuel purchases of up to $6,000 per year.
  • On dining and takeaway purchases, you will receive 3% cash back.
  • All other purchases earn 1% cash back.
These earnings rates are fairly reasonable for customers who are currently Sam's Club Plus members (or who don't mind upgrading to the $100 per year membership). They surpass the rates provided by Citi's Costco Anywhere Visa and are comparable to the earning rates of the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature card, a card with the same name as a similar warehouse retailer with a competitive 5 percent earning rate. With this card, Sam's Club customers who have long commutes to work, gas-guzzling cars, or who enjoy road trips can earn $300 back in gas rewards annually. One of the greatest earning rates available at the moment is five percent. Updates to the Sam's Club rewards program go beyond just the updated earnings rates. All club members will now receive their incentives digitally rather than through paper checks. Rewards will be automatically put on membership cards, where they can be redeemed for cash back or applied to future Sam's Club purchases. Synchrony Bank is also allowing contactless card payments through the Sam's Club mobile app to provide simpler and safer shopping experiences, particularly during the epidemic.
